Different Genres of Hindi movies

There are many categories or genres in Hindi movies. People love to watch Hindi movies which contain drama, comedy , suspense, action, thrill, romance, mythology etc. There are the  films which has unique subjects and there are the films which have all in one formula. People love these all in one kind of films more. But there is one other category named as ‘experimental’ films. The experimental Hindi films break the usual ‘masala’ routine of sing and dance around the bushes of Bollywood movies. They try something new and unusual. But very few falls in such category. For example , Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s movie ‘Black’. Second one is Raghu Romeo. The short films also have some good and unique storylines.

A lot of Hindi films fall in either romance or drama or masala category. They have similar plots. Very few movies have an original storyline. Rather many are the inspirations taken from here and there and others are remakes of Hollywood or south films. Slapstick comedy is another genre of Hindi films. Many films have double meaning dialogues. These non veg and double meaning comedy really make the sophisticated and elite viewers cringe. Very few comedy movies are neat and can be watched by the whole family and kids. There were many attempts to create a good suspense thriller movie earlier. But very few got succeeded in getting the audiences those goosebumps.

In my point of view ,out of the movie releases in the recent years,  some good movies are Dil Chahta Hai, Swades, Delhi 6, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Band Baja Baraat, Rab Ne Bana DI Jodi, Chak De India, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna , Rang De Basanti and Parineeta. These are all in one masala kind of movies. Rather some movies had a very good social message in them along with the entertainment.

Good movies based on the genre of crime and thriller are Company, Shool, Omkaara, Johhny Gaddar, Kaminey, D, Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai, Gangs Of Wasseypur, Mithya and Sehar. The level of violence was high in these films and people got goosebumps after watching these crime dramas.  On the other hand many good suspense movies came up in the recent years. These are original stories and people loved them. Some of these fine suspense thrillers are Talaash, Kahaani, Ek Hasina Thi, Manorama Six Feet Under, Ek Chalis Ki Last Local, Taxi No. 9211, Road, A Wednesday etc. These films had a very strong script and it really brought a lump in the throats.

These days when filmmakers believe in double meaning dialogues and non veg jokes, some directors had done a great job in the comedy genre. They have delivered some absolutely funny movies which caused a laughter riot. Hera Pheri, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron, Khosla Ka Ghosla, Chashme Baddoor, Malamaal Weekly, Bheja Fry, Vicky Donor  did a good job in making people laugh with a clean comedy. While Romeos and Juliets loved to connect with the superb love stories like Saathiya, Cheeni Kum, Socha Na Tha, Love Aaj Kal, Aisha, Rockstar, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, Pyar Ke Side Effects, Jab We Met etc. The whole family watched and enjoyed clean flicks Like Iqbaal, Do Dooni Chaar, 3 Idiots, Taare Zameen Par, Baghban, Aaja Nach Le , The Blue Umbrella etc.  Besides these genres, some movies have the subjects related to current affairs. Some movies are based on real life stories and some are women centric stories. These are known as the experimental or alternative subject movies.

Generally common man wants to forget all his worries and tensions while watching the movie. So filmmakers try hard to entertain their audiences by making a light hearted and enjoyable movie which people can connect to.
